The Sharpshin Island Cache is located on the Potomac River
and may have been named after the cacher
SharpShin'. Incidentally Sharpshin's Birthday was the day
the cache was activated, this only adds truth to the rumor the
Island is named after him.
Reaching this cache can be done from
Algonkian Regional Park in VA or Riley's Lock in Maryland. The
longer route would be from Maryland but optimal if you live in
Maryland as the drive time would be longer to get to the Virginia
side.
Please use the proper landing so to keep the island from any
extra abuse it already gets from the other people who use these
islands.
Camping on the island is legal, but please if you bring it in,
take it out! These Islands are under the care of Potomac
Conservancy and therefore the cache was placed so there is no
chance the plants and wildlife will be effected in a negative
manner.
Since 1993, the Potomac Conservancy has been protecting
the health, beauty, and enjoyment of the
Potomac River and its tributaries.
This cache was placed for the 2006 NoVAGO Fall
Gathering.
