Geocache Description:

An ammo box at Silver Star Mountain.

This year-round cache is either fairly easy or fairly hard-ish, depending on the season and what mode of transportation you take. The evening that we placed it, we walked over 4km one-way to the cache, with an elevation gain of about 1000'. (Coincidentally, it took us about the same distance to get back, and we lost about the same amount of elevation that we had gained...hmmm....) If the chairlift is running (skiing in the winter, mountain biking from July til Labour day weekend), the elevation gain pretty much gets looked after for you. Without the chairlift, it's up to you!

SUMMER: PLEASE stay on marked trails. There is no need to go off trail until you're right at the cache, and that is on rocky ground, and only a couple of steps. Heads up for wildlife...the night that the cache was placed we saw 4 deer and a mother bear with 2 little cubs that scampered up a tree when they saw us. Just a friendly reminder that we're not in the city here.

If you're on foot, feel free to take any HIKING trail that you want (stay off the downhill mountain bike trails for obvious reasons), but here are the directions for the easiest route, if you want to use them: From the parking lot, go through the village, and get on "Main St. Skiway"...diagonally uphill from the end of the village. Follow it to 50*22.285N/119*02.952W, then to 50*22.606N/119*03.255W and onward. Nothing really steep or challenging on this route.

WINTER: If you're on skis and can't handle blue runs, you may need to backtrack a bit after finding the cache to get back onto the green trails. The cache is accessible by alpine or X-C skis, or snowshoeing (although there are a thousand vertical feet to climb with the snowshoes. I did it with our kid in a backpack, and I sure wasn't cold when I got near where the cache is).

I hope you enjoy the ski/board/hike/jog/bike/snowshoe/whatever and the hunt for the cache as well.
