Star Trek 5: Engine Room Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to recent logs or logged into geocaching.com for some time I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,
DalesmanX

Geocache Description:

This is a series of 9 caches located in a former Northeast black hole for caches and indeed cachers. The caches themselves are themed (well the names are anyway) and based on the Star Trek science fiction series that has been going on, well, forever.

There are nine caches of varying sizes altogether, the first 8 all having number clues in/on the containers to give the coordinates for the final cache. It’s not necessary to do the caches in order but, if you do, the logic behind the clues may become obvious. In the event that you can’t find one or two it’s possible to work out what’s required by doing a bit of research. You can still complete the series if you can’t get all the caches although you really should make an effort! This redundancy also has the benefit of allowing you to complete the series if any caches get muggled.

Parking is near to this small cache, which is number 5. The coordinates are for parking and the cache is very near. In the Star Trek series, they were always harping on about the availability or otherwise of the Dilithium crystals that were required to power the engines or something like that. Many of the plots centred around Scotty lining up the crystals in the engines so they could achieve warp something-or-other. To find this cache you need to find two engines (you’re parked right next to one – you can’t miss it and if you do, I hope you’re not driving) and line up the Dilithium crystals in two of the engines. Head straight away once you’ve done this and the cache will be at the end of your short walk.

I’ve made a decision not to set any more puzzle caches without putting the entire solution on the cache page in the hint. I’m not too keen on puzzles myself; you rely on the returning of emails for clues and quite often the solution is very obscure to all but the setter and they’re more irritating than anything else. Accordingly, the solution is below if the above wasn't enough.
