Geocache Description:

This is a series of 9 caches located in a former Northeast black hole for caches and indeed cachers. The caches themselves are themed (well the names are anyway) and based on the Star Trek science fiction series that has been going on, well, forever

There are nine caches of varying sizes altogether, the first 8 all having number clues in/on the containers to give the coordinates for the final cache. It’s not necessary to do the caches in order but, if you do, the logic behind the clues may become obvious. In the event that you can’t find one or two it’s possible to work out what’s required by doing a bit of research. You can still complete the series if you can’t get all the caches although you really should make an effort! This redundancy also has the benefit of allowing you to complete the series if any caches get muggled.

The coordinates listed are for parking and not for the cache although there are two useful pubs in the area if you fancy a bevy and haven’t got it sussed yet.

Well, you’ve got all you need to get the coordinates at last. The first 8 caches in the series all had numbers in them. You need to do the following to get the coordinates for this ninth one.

The numbers in the caches are either 1,2 or 3 digits long. All you need to do with each one is add the digits until you end up with only one digit as in these examples:

If the number in a cache was 76, add 7+6 to get 13 and then add 1+3 to get 4.
If the number in a cache was 123, add 1+2+3 to get 6.
If the number in a cache was 30, add 3+0 to get 3.

The coordinates you need are from the numbers below:

A: Star Trek 1 (Start Wrecks)
B: Star Trek 2 (Bridge)
C: Star Trek 3 (Beware, Klingons!)
D: Star Trek 4 (Borg Spheres)
E: Star Trek 5 (Engine Room)
F: Star Trek 6 (Dilithium Crystals)
G: Star Trek 7 (Seven of Nine)
H: Star Trek 8 (Captain’s Log)

And are:

54 4(B-8).(A)(C-2)(D+2) 1 1(E).(F)(G)(H/3)

This cache is located about ¾ of a mile along a public footpath leading from Elwick towards Dalton Piercy. It’s not exactly hard to find but you may get mucky (possibly soaked) as there’s a small beck involved. When I was in it, er, I mean near it, there was no water so you may get lucky. Apologies that the start of the path needs a good CITO but it’s nicer further along.

It’s a large cache and full of goodies. You may have noticed that none of these caches has had a quid for first to find. That’s because I spent all the quids on RSPB badges. Here you can treat yourself to a Ringed Plover instead of £1.

Captain’s Log Supplemental

WORMHOLE FOUND!! i.e. nearer parking coordinates that don’t require wandering through an area in need of a CITO. This walk is about ½ a mile in total Park here considerately, please.

On the grounds that this cache seems to be a tad difficult to find – for some reason, I’ve uploaded some photos. There’s an easier way to get it if you follow the numbered photos 1-4.

In wet weather, particularly if it’s darkish too, you are going to have great difficulty putting the cache back – or even getting it out of its hide – if you don’t actually stand in the water. So, best not to do it with the Sunday best on and better to really go for it and get filthy. Last time I checked it (December), I used wet boots and rolled my trouser legs up, which:
a) made it easier to replace the container
b) made me look like a muppet.
It’s not too important during the Winter months but it really needs putting back where it should be as it’s an area of high** muggle* activity here.
