A visit to the site of large Indian town to find coordinates for a cache hidden near Pine Log mountain.
The posted coordinates will take you to a historical marker at the location of Pinelog, a large Indian town along Pine Log Creek that extended about one half mile either side of the marker. According to the marker, Hernando de Soto visited the town in the 1570’s. To find the location of the cache, notice that the front side of the marker lists several land lots that describe the location of Pine Log Indian Town. Use the second lot number as follows: Lot number + 558 = AAA Lot number + 162 = BBB You will find the cache at N 34 19.AAA, W 084 40. BBB The cache, a 30-cal blank ammo box, is located in the Pine Log Wildlife Management Area near Pine Log Mountain. There is a drive of about one mile from the historical marker to the gate of a road into the Pine Log WMA. The gate is normally closed except during hunting season. The hike from the gate to the cache is less than one-half mile on a level road. The cache is hidden less than 100 feet from the road. There is a spot suitable for parking along the road near the gate at N 34 20.096, W 084 40.814.
