Lemony Snicket was born before you were,
and is likely to die before you as well. His family has roots
in a part of the country which is now underwater, and his
childhood was spent in the relative splendor of the Snicket
Villa which has since become a factory, a fortress and a
pharmacy and is now, alas, someone else's villa. To the
untrained eye, Mr. Snicket's hometown would not appear to be
filled with secrets. Untrained eyes have been wrong
before.
Though his formal training was chiefly in rhetorical
analysis, he has spent the last several years researching the
travails of the Baudelaire orphans. This project takes him to the
scenes of numerous crimes, often during the offseason. Eternally
pursued and insatiably inquisitive, a hermit and a nomad, Mr.
Snicket wishes you nothing but the best.
If you haven't heard of Lemony Snicket before, it may be because
you have been living under a rock, or in a hollow log. Both
excellent places to find a cache, but not for hearing about popular
children's authors. And unless you are a big fan of Lemony Snicket
and his Series of Unfortunate Events books, you will need to do a
little research online to find the correct numbers. (Don’t worry,
they won’t be too hard to find.) You’ll then use those numbers to
find the correct coordinates to the cache.
The cache is located at:
N 42 AA.BBB
W087 CC.DDD
AA= The year the first book in A Series of Unfortunate Events
was published
– the year Daniel Handler (aka Lemony Snicket) was born
+ 21
BBB= The difference between how many pages in The End and
The Bad Beginning
X the number of Baudelaire orphans
+ 202
CC= Book number of The Ersatz Elevator
X Book number of The Carnivorous Carnival
DDD= total number of books in the series
X Book number of The Miserable Mill
X Book number of The Slippery Slope
- 30
(You will be able to find the answers at the
Barnes&Noble website.)
If you park on Hwy. 38, you can enjoy a nice stroll on the Oak
Leaf Trail and possibly visit the Senior Searchers' One Degree of
Separation cache along the way.
I have stocked this cache with lots of fun Lemony
Snicket-related items (like eyes and Incredibly Deadly Vipers)
including some official promo items from his publisher.
