Located in Haley M. Smith Park, Herndon, VA 20170. The park contains a parking lot, restrooms, playground, sandy volleyball court, and several popular playing fields. The park closes at dark.
CACHE IS NOT AT THE ABOVE COORDINATES. The coordinates are for the parking lot. You will find a clue to get the final coordinates. Haley Smith Park is a popular small sports park in Herndon, named after a town citizen who was well known for his contributions to youth sports through the Optimist Club of Herndon. Haley Smith also served on the Herndon Town Council for many years. You will need to get some information from two plaques near the parking lot to compute the final cache coordinates. From the plaques, find out what year the park was dedicated: _ _ _ _ . Subtract 60 from the last two digits of the year to get A. What day of the month was the park dedicated? Subtract 2 and use this number for B. Final coordinates are N 38 57.5A, W 077 23.17B. The cache is a 5x7x4 inch camoflaged plastic container, stocked with geocaching and sports related items. It is within 5 feet of the mowed area, but be careful to avoid the poison ivy! You will also need to be careful of muggles nearby, especially at certain times of the year. DO NOT GO CLOSE TO THE PRIVATE FENCE LINES! Please replace the cache with ground cover so it will be well hidden from view!
