Suggested Parking
There is a small place on Old Thornford Road for 3 or 4 cars(coords. N51 22.510 W001 15.333) or a large car park at the control tower on Burys Bank Road (coords. N51 22.957 W001 17.036). Please beware this car park closes evenings but there is a sign on the entrance displaying the time it closes.
Greenham and crookham commons in 1941 they were requisitioned as an air field and three runways were built.
Inititally pilots were trained here.
It became headquarters of a troop carrier wing during the Invasion of north Africa ,before becoming an American air force station in 1943.
The base was used by many planes and gliders during the D Day landings and again later in the war.
Today it is used by walkers, runners and bike rides, This is enjoyed by families as well.
The cache is a plastic sandwich box and contains lots of different goodies and a log book .
Come for a nice easy walk ,discover the cache and enjoy.
Goldfinch bottom cache is placed on crookham common side.
the cache can be reached by Thornford road and old Thornford road where there is some parking, or park at the control tower.
