Oswego Falls Palisade Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

PTCrazy: Another cache that seems to be hunted down by muggles more that geocachers! I checked on this cache today and all I was lucky enough to find was the log book which was soaked and unreadable, laying on the ground near the cache location. I know that teenagers come here to take a dip in the river, but I thought I had hidden the cache well enough and far enough away from their rope swing to keep it safe. However, it seems that they always find it. I am going to archive this one and work out some plans to place a new cache, near here, but not TOO near. Thanks to all who visited this area.

Geocache Description:

The terrain for the first half is level and grassy, there is a small hill to climb and some minor bushwacking near the final.

The cache container is a medium sized medicine bottle, inside is a log and pencil inside a mini ziploc bag.
I recently learned about the history behind this location and felt it was worthy of placing a cache here, so others could grab a quick bit of history while searching for the cache.
This location, originally called Fort Bradstreet had a eight sided earthen fortress with barracks built by the British before the Revolutionary War. Most of it was destroyed during the construction of the Oswego Canal in 1820. About the only visible remains left today are one of the earthen embankments, however, if you use your imaginat-
-ion, perhaps you can visualize what it may have looked like back then.
The posted coordinates will get you to a parking area and from there, you will see a small sign. You will need to visit this sign to find the cache.
using the dates on this sign, first, figure out how many years this location was a colonial portage, add that number to the North coordinates listed below. Second, figure out how many years this location was called Fort Bradstreet and add that number to the West coordinates listed below. These coordinates will get you close to the final cache. By using the "trailhead" coords, you can go where many others have gone before and if you stay on the beaten path, you will know you are getting close when you see a spot that is sure to make kids happy on hot summer days. The cache isn't too far from this location, just follow the lesser worn path.

N 43*18.476 + yrs. colonial portage =N 43*18.???
W076*24.531 + yrs. Fort Bradstreet = W076*24.???

There is a playground in this park for the kids and some b-ball hoops as well, so please be stealthy, as they may be watching you. As always be careful and be sure to enjoy the area.
