The Basics:
Who? YOU
What? Geocaching Event (November 2006 Georgia Geocaching
Meeting) - If you show up, you are automatically a GGA
member!!!
When? Saturday, November 11th, 2 to 4 pm
Where? Coastal Georgia Center, 305 Fahm Street, Savannah, GA
31401. It's downtown west of the visitor's center.
Why? Fun, and more fun! It also counts as a find, earns you
membership in the elite GGA, and lots of other great reasons too
numerous to mention here.
Dress? Dresses are ok, but the men do not have to wear them.
Just about anything casual is ok - the weather could turn warm, or
it might be coolish (but better than Atlanta). It's not quite Tybee
Island though where it seems "anything" goes. If you are planning
to hit very many of the caches in the area, I might recommend pants
since the stickers never quite die around here (although Novemeber
is past prime silk/banana spider season).
Food? Not allowed in the center, but feel free to tailgate
outside or at one of the many, many eateries to be found in the
downtown area.
Camping? I'm not very familiar with the area spots but Skidaway
Island State Park is close click here , Tybee
Island has a campground clicky again. And there
is a KOA along I95 or is it Highway 17? clicky third time. I've
had relatives use two of the three and they seemed good enough for
in-laws to me.
Parking? Parking is free in Savannah on weekends and holidays
(this event falls on both) so don't feed the meters uhless you are
feeling generous to our fair city, Savannah. The closest legal
parking is the free lot next to the Georgia Coastal Center (please
don't park in the SCAD student lots that say decal required).
Other Activities?
1) Veterans' Day Parade. Downtown.
Starts at TBD.
2) Cane Grinding at the Oatland Island Education Center (Savannah's
Mini-Zoo). 10 am - 4 pm. Goto:
this site
3) Geocaching. Try Team Teuton's Bookmark List: Favorite Savannah
Caches
clicky
4) Night before social?? May I recommend a come and go hang out at
The Gallery Espresso? Someone nod their head and I'll be there -
6-8 pm? Anyone?
