Thames Path - Old Cricklade Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lydford Locators: Went out today to carry out routine cache maintenance, but unfortunately the cache appears to be missing.

It is our least visited cache, which for several months of the year is only reachable with waders, so we think it is time to put this one to bed. Thank you everyone who visited, we really enjoyed reading your logs.

Geocache Description:

A multi-stage cache through the glacial flood plain of the Thames and Churn rivers. This cache can be combined with Thames Path – Leap Across the Milky Way and Hailstone Hill, taking a little over 1 hour to complete all three caches. Yes it's on a flood plain - which means it may be flooded particularly in the wet winter months!

The recommended parking is at N51 38.996 W001 51.501 in a lay-by to the north of the town of Cricklade. PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS NO ACCESS TO THE RECOMMENDED PARKING FROM THE A419, YOU MUST APPROACH ON THE MINOR ROAD FROM CRICKLADE TOWN.

The Thames Path follows England's best known river for 184 miles (294km) as it meanders from its source in the Cotswolds through several rural counties and on to the City of London. On its way the Trail passes peaceful water meadows rich in wildlife, historic towns and many lovely villages, finishing at the Thames Barrier near Greenwich.

Cricklade is a typical Cotswolds Town, with many historic buildings including numerous fine hostelries where you may quaff a flagon or two of foaming ale.

Once there were many meadows like North Meadow along the upper Thames but very few remain today. In spring, Britain's largest flowering of snakes head fritillaries takes place. The ancient 'hay lot' stones which once marked local farmers' plots can still be found.
