Ho'ona. Along coastline on west side of the Big Island of Hawaii. Near airport and Natural Enegy Lab. Look for 50 cal. green ammo box.
This cache is located near Ho'ona Hawaiian Heritage State Historical Preserve. It is NOT in the preservation area, but you need to pass throught it. Access is permitted from 6AM to 8PM seven days a week. This is a culturally sensitive area. Read and obey all signs and observe this area with respect. Stay on marked trails and do not disturb anything in this area. By passing thru here you may learn something about the Hawaiians and how they lived here generations ago. There are many interesting things in this area in addition to the Hawaiian artifacts. The cache is located in an untouched area that is rather desolate and secluded but very near to many human activities tha have impacted this area.Do not attempt to find this wearing thongs or sandals..... the first part of the trail is misleading and you WILL need sturdy footwear eventually. Also bring water.
From parking area (see waypoint)expect to walk at least .36 mile to cache. You will see an intersting Tiki carving (see waypoint) continue to end of trail....at this point you will need to find a suitable route thru the brush. (you are about to leave the preserve area) I suggest hugging the shore but there is more than one way thru here. you will be very close to the cache after you leave the brushy area. but here is the real challenge and if you get this far you will see why immediatly.
