In the East Village neighborhood of New York City, on the Lower
East side of Manhattan, there are still over 70 community gardens.
They were created by local residents, on empty and unused city
land, over the last 30 years. Today, as part of the Green Thumb
program, most of these gardens are protected as NYC parks. But in
order to preserve them, access is limited. This cache is part of
the East Village tour of community gardens.
The Green Oasis garden is one of the best kept secrets in our
neighborhood. This is because it seems only local folks ever
venture farther east than Avenue C. It is recommended that this
cache only be approached from the West and only during daylight
hours. If you come on a weekend there should be friendly garden
folks about to welcome you.
This is a micro cache found amongst the many decorations at the
edge of the garden. Garden access shouldn't be necessary, but will
give you a different perspective on the matter.
As always in urban caching, the best stealth strategy is to show an
interest in the local scenery. And always bring a pen.
Please carefully replace the cache where you found it.
This cache is part of the
East Village Garden Tour cache
