Geocache Description:

  Landslide at Telegraph Ridge

The Detroit Toledo & Ironton Connection

1914

They told you that accepting the job as Chief Inspector of Tunnels would be boring.  that was until the rain began.......

Your work order today reads:

As you travel towards your destination you see many telegraph lines down.  It has rained most of the week and it's beginning to get dark.

Heading towards tunnel No.1 down the muddy path you soon realize a landslide has covered the tunnel entrance.

You quickly return to notify the oncoming train of the danger.

Check Your train schedule - the next train is heading Northeast from royersville to hoadley station.

You must get to tunnel No.2 and warn the train!

Note: The cache is not either one of the tunnels. The cache is near Tunnel No.1. You do not have to visit the tunnels to get credit for the cache. The tunnels are abandoned from Detroit Toledo & Ironton railway.  Tunnels in this area were built aroung 1882 and were abandonned by 1916. Tunnel No. 3 is completely buried and Tunnel No. 4 is in Royersville (cache by LETSRACE). These tunnels are archeological sites. Please respect the sites if you chose to visit and stay as far away as possible to view. Landslides were a problem during the days of the railroad. There are still landslides going on - so please DO NOT walk close the edges of the tunnels-the ground is very weak.

You will find the cache (ammo box) near the parking coords for Tunnel No. 1. Best viewing portal for Tunnel No.1 is just across the street (the road goes right overtop of it).  If you wish to see Tunnel No.2 the coords  for parking and travel to site are in the cache.

I want to thank Nelson Kruger of Wayne National Forest for all his help this summer getting this cache ready. The cache is on the border of Wayne National Forest. I promised to mention the Indiana bat that is endangered in our area. Please do not go inside the Tunnels and disrupt their habitat. - the tunnels are very unstable anyway. They ask you to stay as far as possible away from the portals.

I hope you enjoy the history here .
