Geocache Description:

Parking can be found at Pendeen Lighthouse but beware at weekends and the "silly season" with lots of muggles lurking!

Part of the Cornish Lighthouse series The cache cotains a part co ordinate required to help find the final lighthouse cache. Pendeen is set on one of the most dramatic headlands in Cornwall. An area steeped in history, folklore and mining, believe me as I used to run a pub in St Just and used to stay with Lighthouse Keeper friends here at Pendeen when the station was still manned. Pendeen Lighthouse designed by Trinity House and built in 1900 by Arthur Carkeek of Redruth. It was built of rubble and stone with a cement facing. The original lens apparatus is still used it weighs 2.5 tons and floats on a bed of mercury The power was converted to electricity in 1926 and there is a standby generator in case of mains failure. The present light has a range of 28 miles and having been there on a foggy night the foghorn is awsome! Have a look around the area which includes the Geevor mining museum.
