brownfield
Not far from the abbadoned structures of Universal Atlas Cement Co., division of US Steel, this area still shows signs of past industrial activity. Now a slag dump, with grasses and trees stubbornly growing over blackish rocky terrain, the area is enjoyed mostly by ATV riders.
Cache is a 3-liter hexagonal plastic jug. To extract the logbook, you'll have to squeeze the plastic mouth of the jug a bit to get it out.
Best approach is from the nearby cache, "Universal's View" (GCQCDZ), which is located near an athletic field with public parking. Look for square yellow signs for "Universal Park" from Universal Rd in Penn Hills. If the park's gate is closed, plenty of public parking can be found nearby at 40 28.204N 79 47.127W. From the park, walk South-East towards the creek, and from where the creek and a paved road intersect, you can find an access point marked with a yellow metal bar/gate.
Another approach is from a roadside space under the signage of Pittsburgh Sign Corporation, at 40 27.128N 79 47.739W, on Thomson Run Rd, with a yellow metal bar/gate with a stop sign on it.
For the final approach, sturdy shoes or hiking boots are reccomended.
