We urban ants spend a lot of time in the inner city and we want to introduce you to some of the interesting parks we have discovered.
The Cartier Park in Mount Royal has a great view of downtown and towards the Saddledome. Before 1905, this area and much of Mount Royal was a treeless, rock-strewn hill. That year, the owner of the property, the Canadian Pacific Railway, decided to attract the wealthy by promoting the area as a higher income district. It established massive “through lots” that stretched an entire block, and encouraged development of mansions with enormous setbacks. Wealthy American businessmen and their families built most of the original dwellings. The area soon became known as “American Hill.” By 1910 and 1911, certain influential Calgarians decided to reclaim the area, and street names took on a distinctly Canadian and French Canadian flavour, completing the transformation of American Hill into Mount Royal, named after an exclusive district in Montréal.
This is not an off leash park but it is dog friendly
We recommended parking at N 51 01.591 W 114 05.170. Please obey all the TRAFFIC LAWS on the way, as there are a number of new traffic calming measures in the Mount Royal community. Enjoy the look and landscaping of the houses in the neighbourhood on the drive to the cache. And where the heck do you think that neighbour found an anchor.
This is a challenging hide but that is meant to keep it safe from the local homeless population that occasionally frequents the area.
