'Rhodes' lead to Homebush Bay Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

The Spindoctors: Unfortunately the container was damaged - a combination of bad design and geocachers who don't have a soft touch.

According to my three strikes and you're out policy, this cache is now being retired. A sad moment, as this was the first cache I placed in my new home city. Looking forward to someone else possibly coming up with a clever cache in its place.

Geocache Description:

Spindoc Bob's first Sydney cache.

The surburb of Rhodes is bissected by Homebush Bay Drive. Until recently, most of the western side of Rhodes was industrial, home to Allied Feeds and Union Carbide.

As part of the Sydney 2000 Olympic bid, the NSW Government promised to clean this region of the 'nasty' chemical left in the soil, which leach into Homebush Bay. This work is expected to be completed in 2008. See: Rhodes remediation website

In the past few years some of the land has been turned into a shopping centre and a host of apartments and offices.

You may wish to attempt this cache while you are visting the shopping centre or enjoying the mangroves and parkland in nearby Bicenntenial Park.

Although the path to the cache is wheelchair friendly, the last few metres require a small scramble (keep the geokids on a leash to ensure they don't fall in).
