Geocache Description:

A short climb part way up Scarth Gap – can be accessed from both ends of the lake with free parking available at either end.

It is sad to see that the little bridge has gone from the bottom of the pass - always a welcome sight when descending from the tops or a nice spot to sit and enjoy the magnificent scenery across and around the Lake beneath the magnificent Haystacks.

The cache can be located close to a Memorial Plaque dedicated to two members of the Mountain Rescue Service who died during practice in June 1969.

The position of Mountain Rescue Posts aren’t all marked on the OS maps and are sometimes changed so check before you set off. Know your stuff before you head off and take all necessary safety precautions etc. If you find yourself in danger or spot someone else in danger be as self-reliant as possible before calling these guys – and if you are doing View A Cross Buttermere cache there’s a Mountain Rescue donation box up there close to the cache.
