Geocache Description:

This natural Crow's Nest is a 3' patch of grass near the tip of Heceta Head, a hundred feet higher than the lighthouse. It's a breath-taking spot, with views ten miles up the coast to Cape Perpetua framed by sheer rock precipices dropping into the waves. (See Gallery) It's also a superb whale-watching spot -- a wide ocean panorama and deep water just off-shore. It would probably be a great storm-watching spot too, and a great place to get photos of birds catching an updraft just a few feet away.

The down side is brutal: it's 305 feet straight down to the rocks and surf; no protective railing of any kind. This is no place for kids, a dog, more than 2 people, or anybody who's afraid of heights. No kidding.

Cache is a small air-tight camo'd jar tucked into the tall grass -- not a lot of room in there.

Parking at Devil's Elbow State Park requires an annual pass or payment of "parking fee". Take the trail to the lighthouse, then just a few feet before you get to the lighthouse building head up-hill into the trees, on some wooden steps to the Heceta Head trail. Cache is about 100 feet off the main trail on a minor sub-trail. Total walk is about 0.6 mile from parking lot, one-way.
