The above coordinates will take you to a historical pull out with
plenty of parking for any size rig. You may approach by land or
water. If you arrive by boat you'll have a short climb to a
beautiful view of the river. It's a great place for a tail-gate
picnic, someone was having one when we checked out the site. You
will need to do some simple math to find the final
waypoint.
This is an offset cache with a log-only micro container at the
final waypoint. At the posted coordinates you will find a
historical marker, describing some of David Thompson's exploration
of the Pacific Northwest. David Thompson is well known in Canadian
history, not as well-known in U.S. history, even though many of his
travels took place in Washington, Idaho and Montana. Two
interesting facts about David Thompson are that he was married to
the same Native American woman for 58 years, a rarity among most
fur traders, and he refused to trade whiskey with the Natives.
There are several interesting websites dedicated to David Thompson,
the explorer, fur trader, map maker. Check out the bicentennial
events at David Thompson 200 and
David
Thompson Things. To find the final waypoint for this cache, you
will need to read the sign and do a little math. David Thompson was
known for his mathematics skills. The cache is hidden at N 48°
3A.BCD W117° EF.GH8 To get ABCD, subtract the last 2 digits of the
posted N waypoint from the year of David's death. For EFGH, add 18
to the date David founded Spokane House.
