Mainly grass route involving a slight uphill climb. Ground can be muddy when wet, appropriate footwear advised!
Not much that I can tell you about this one, other than I came across the signs for this fairly new walk when travelling back and forth to Aberdeen. Took time out last month to check it out and found it to be a very enjoyable walk with some great scenery looking down into the valley below.
Park in the picnic area, signposted Luncarty and Picnic Area 100 yards (coordinates below)and head back to the main road where the sign for Auchmill pond and Castleton Braes walk can be seen across the road. Please take care crossing this busy main road as the traffic can be fast at times.
Follow the signs for the walk and if you have a spare ten minutes then do the Auchmill Pond walk first, it will only take you about ten minutes to walk around and has some great views across the pond, before it then deposits you back at the same starting point where you can then continue onto the Castleton Braes walk itself, heading up the hill and towards the final destination.
This seems to be a little gem of a walk and I think that it has been constructed possibly by the nearby farmer. I spotted deer, badgers and foxes on the ground with Kestrels, buzzards and a heron in the pond (although not all on the same day!). I would not recommend buggies as the ground can be uneven and soft underfoot with an initial short uphill section to do.
