Geocache Description:

Georgetown Cemetery is the final resting place for many of Beaver County's earliest settlers. Among these is Benoni Dawson, who laid out and incorporated the town of Georgetown in 1796. Georgetown, which was the first established town in what would soon become Beaver County, promptly became home to ship builders and captain due to it's location on the Ohio River.

In 1803, the Meriwether Lewis and the Corp of Discovery (Clark didn't join up with Lewis until the corp reached Louisville, KY) disembarked in Georgetown in order to purchase an additional boat for the famous expedition. A plaque in town commemorates this visit. There are also two other historic plaques in the vicinity: one for St. Luke's Church in the center of town and the other is for the town in general.

To reach the cemetery, take Georgetown Road into the town of Georgetown and make a right at the stop sign onto Market Street. Market Street then winds up a steep hill and the road to the cemetery is on the right side. If the gate is open, you are able to drive right in to the cemetary. Otherwise, it's about a 200 yard walk. There are signs for the cemetery, but they aren't particulary visible. The cache is hidden on the outskirts of the cemetary among an outcropping of rocks. Benoni Dawson's headstone is still legible and it's likely you'll walk near it to reach the cache.

The original contents of the cache when it was placed include a packet of seeds for planting, a Canadian one dollar coin, a souvenir coin from the Outer Banks, a sticker, and a mini carabiner. The container is rather small and the biggest challenge might be fitting everything back in it.
