Geocache Description:


This is another great cemetary cache, although not located near enough to disturb those resting there. There is ample parking at the church but please respect the Sunday worship hours. Container is large enough for some swag, the log, and a pen. The cemetary was started in 1861 and plots were given away. When a new pastor arrived years later, he decided people should pay for their "spaces" which upset the parishoners. Several families bought a large section, fenced it off, and proceeded to bury where they chose. This became known as "The Rebel Section". Unfortunetly the fence is no longer there. The church was responsible for upkeeping the cemetary until 1960 when several locals formed an association to take over, thus relieving the church of the cost. We'd like to thank John Morrison who helped found the association and gave us permission to place the cache. If you walk across in front of the church to the right you will see the soldier. He is Henry William Melick, born 1841, died 1915 and a member of the G.A.R.(Civil War) Thanks to The Shirelles for the song (1962), one of my favorites at the time!
