Geocache Description:

A varied, relatively short hike up Mill Maud Hill, with superb views at the top of course, and the Crossroads bar and restaurant at the foot...what more could you want?!

Park in a large layby off the A980 road behind the Crossroads Hotel, which is situated on the B9119 Echt-Tarland road. Take the grassy path without the gate. At the first waypoint, a fork in the path, take the right hand path. (The left will take you the correct way eventually too, it just makes for a slightly longer walk). After a gradual climb up through silver birch and mixed forest, at waypoint 2 you will see on your right a smaller track branching off. Take this. Within literally a minute or two you should see gorse bushes across the path, but the trail skirts round them to the left. Once clear of the bushes, within about 1 minutes walk, look to your left for a faint track leading up through the trees, it has a pale exposed tree root just showing through the dirt and pine-needles to mark it (Waypoint 3). This is little more than a deer track, and the signal may be poor here. (If you go on too far, you will very soon emerge out of the trees, and get a lovely view. It looks like you could just head straight uphill from here, but be warned - the thick gorse bushes you will see on the brow of the hill are pretty much impenetrable, so also don't take this route when coming back downhill). Anyway - back at the deer-track - follow this as it twists uphill until you emerge at a broken down old fence line. Follow this uphill until you reach the trig point - the cache is just a few metres beyond. Enjoy the views! Total time up to cache will be about 20/30 minutes upwards. Box is regular size but has a ridiculously large logbook taking up a lot of room - no huge swaps!!
