This cache requires a very steep climb up through subtropical rainforest. It is my first hide.
Geopets cannot be taken.
Geokiddies probably shouldn't be taken, as they are likely to show you how unfit you really are!! (plus some steep bits)
I also recommend you wear long pants unless you really want to "have a real go"
The humble red cedar, or Toona ciliata (Family Meliaceae) has had a long and eventful history. They almost wiped out by cedar getters in the 19th century due to overharvesting of the much sought after timber. Fortunately the Australian cedar trade was destroyed by cheaper American imports, making cedar cutting unprofitable. Since this devastation of the population, red cedars have recovered well along the Illawarra escarpment, with many fine examples now present. The red cedar is one of the few deciduous Australian plants. In early winter it can be easily recognised in the escarpment by its distinct yellow leaves. In late Spring, the leafless branches stand out of the sea of green. In early Spring, the new reddish leaves contrast with the rest of the forest. All year round it can easily be identified by the distinct flaky bark - once you see it close up you will begin recognising it all through the forest.
This location was chosen for a number of reasons. It is at the top of a little known trail, and passes through amazing subtropical rainforest, which in many places remains relatively undisturbed. This area is home to numerous large examples of red cedars, and if you look carefully, you may be able to see a number of smaller trees coming up.
The cache is very difficult to get to, however, once at the site it is very easy to find. Please note that due to the dense canopy of the forest, it may be difficult to get an accurate reading. On that note, if my GR isn't very accurate (although i hope it is), let me know and i may change it slightly. I hope you have as much fun finding this cache as i had hiding it.
Small swaps only!
