The Cannonsville Reservoir is in Delaware County, New York. It was formed by impounding over half of the west branch of the Delaware River. It is the westernmost, newest, and largest of New York City's reservoirs. It was placed in service in 1964, and several towns were destroyed to make room for it. It is 455 square miles and contains 95.7 billion gallons of water at full capacity. Its water flows through a series of reservoirs and aqueducts, providing New York City with about 25% of its drinking water.
