The Puzzle is Optional Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

mcrt: I was driving by and noticed that I couldn't see the container, so I stopped in and realized it was MIA. I have been thinking that I needed a better location for this sort of puzzle so I'll find somewhere else to do another. Thanks to those who found and enjoyed this one.

Geocache Description:

Reception is weak, especially on option two. Not recommended at 5 pm on weekdays.

The Puzzle is Optional

Some people love puzzles, some people hate them. Some people love math, others hate it. This cache has something for everyone.

There are three ways to solve this puzzle. The first way involves collecting some information, then doing a bit of math. There is nothing too hard with this. The reception is pretty good for this method.

The second take a bit more walking, but all you need to do is collect numbers and plug them in. The reception leaves a lot to be desired.

The third is "A Suffusion of Yellow".

I have verified the points using standard geocaching methods.

First Option:

At the starting point N 47° 33.118 W 122° 19.678 (reception is weak here) count the number of boards in the seat and back. This is your first number for all options. Call this A __. Both of the numbers you solve for will use this so it should work as a check.

Move to N 47° 33.116 W 122° 19.709 and you will find a street sign and a manhole cover. On the sign there is a four digit number representing the block and an Avenue number (read from N side). On the manhole cover there is a four digit number followed by the letter G. One more stop at N 47° 33.137 W 122° 19.757. To the north you will see an address on a building. If you look slightly S of E you will see a sign on a large building with three words. This is the name of the building. Convert these words to a numeric value using A=1, B=2, etc. Then add all the letters of each word.

Block __ __ __ __ Avenue __ Manhole __ __ __ __ Address __ __ __ __ Bldg Name 1 __ __ Bldg Name 2 __ __ Bldg Name 3 __ __

AXPU=Address + Block – (Avenue * Avenue * (Bldg Name 2 + Bldg Name 3)) – Bldg Name 1 – (Manhole digit 2 Manhole digit 3)

YJBA=Block + Manhole – (Bldg Name 1 * 3) + Manhole first digit.

The Final is at N 47° 3P.XUA W 122° 1Y.JBA

Second Option:

At the starting point N 47° 33.118 W 122° 19.678 (reception is weak here) count the number of boards in the seat and back. This is your first number for all options. Call this A __. You do not need to cross the street on this option.

Move to N 47° 33.116 W 122° 19.658, look north Clearance B’ C”

At N 47° 33.116 W 122° 19.620 find the street sign. The block # is DEFG and it is Hth Ave. Looking east there is a Sandwich Shop with and address of IJKL.

A bit north of this point is N 47° 33.139 W 122° 19.620. Here you can find out what time the gate closes M:NO, a PQ Min Load Zone, oh and Sur la Table is RSTU.

One more point to gather the numbers. N 47° 33.168 W 122° 19.624. Look west at the number associated with the left door (Aquatic). This is VWXY.

The Final is at N 47° 3P.XUA W 122° 1Y.JBA

Third Option: "A Suffusion of Yellow".

Congrats to globalgirl for braving the rain for FTF.
