Geocache Description:

Cache is located just off to the side of the main road, terrain is a bit uneven, which is why we gave it the 2.5 rating, but is probably over rated. To reach this location, take Sam Campbell's Branch Road off of hwy 15 across from Fugates Entertainment, and from there, follow your GPS, be careful, the road is narrow and has some rough patches.

Dunraven is the name of the general location of this cache, but is called Tunnel Hill by locals, because there are 'twin' train tunnels running thru the mountain. Local folklore also has it that the tunnels are haunted, with glowing figures being seen, and ghastly screams being heard coming from the tunnel. People have also reported being chased out of the tunnels by a tall ghostly figure. There are stories that when the tunnels were being constructed, in the early 1920's, a worker was sawing boards, standing on high scaffolding, to be part of the frame for the concrete supports of the tunnel, while below more workers were pouring more concrete in deep trenches for the actual railbed. The worker lost his balance, and fell into the deep trench, and was lost before anyone could rescue him. the tunnels run very close the the Kentucky River, and fishermen have reported the sound of sawing and terrifying screams from the vicinity of the tunnels. Because of the reputed hauntings, we gave the actual cache a halloween theme, but trade items do not have to be of a halloween theme, if you don't have any with you.

The tunnels were built sometime in the early twenties, and offer some interesting architecture for that time period. there are many tunnels like this in the Perry Co. area., with at least one more 'twin' tunnel, near the community of Yerkes. Below are coordinated for a great view of the tunnels, but PLEASE DO NOT go near the tunnels or the track, as they are still in use today, with coal trains passing thru them during the day. The coordinates are for a spot along a county road, and automobile traffic does travel this gravel road, so be careful if you choose to see the actual tunnels, there aren't many places to pull over.

The actual cache IS NOT located near the tunnels, it is just off the paved road, with a large pull off across the road near the cache location. The traffic can be busy a certain times of the day, so stealth can be a must here. Locals like to ride ATV's and dirt bikes also.

The Kentucky River runs close to here, you will actually pass over the river on a narrow bridge, it provides a most excellent view of it's beauty. It's one of the more beautiful spots we've seen on the river, a nice place for a picture!
Enjoy the cache, and watch out for those ghost and goblins!!
