The Tale of Happy Frog. When Happy Frog was just a tadpole she picked the High Desert as her home. Everyone’s geocaching friend ellspops reminded us in a very well thought out but short lived cache called Watery Welcome of how land promoters who sell desert land will usually show the prospective land owners an abundance of water. When Apple Valley was first developed the hub of activity was centered around The Apple Valley Inn, and right next to it was the Apple Pond. This pond is still shown on maps of the area but is now gone and what remains is a depression in the ground and a broken down chain link fence and what is left of a pump. Well back to the tale of Happy Frog. The Frog chose the pond as her home and she spent her formidable years there. Evidently the need to show the public this abundance of water went away and so did the pond. When the pond dried up Happy Frog moved to the Milpas area of Apple Valley where she prospered. Happy Frog is on the move again and she is going the great northwest part of this country, this area will always have lots of water. We all wish Happy Frog much happiness in her new home. Happy Frog placed caches all over the High Desert to test our skills with a GPS and teach us about local history. One of these caches was called Geocaching History. This geocache is an extension of hers with the same TB's, swag, and log book, as a tribute to a fellow cacher. This cache is placed near the old Apple Pond in some cattails that thrive on the water from an old spring that probably feed Apple Pond in the past. Please enjoy the hunt and watch out for animals that call this watering hole home. PLEASE NOTE: The spring has dried up and it appears that maybe a homeless person is staching some belonging where the cache was. I moved the cache to the edge of the old Apple Pond, you do not need to go through the fence.
