Geocache Description:

Old remains of church on Sewell Road!

I'm sadden to have to archive MY Taylorsville school but I figured I'd recycle the container.
When I attended Taylorsville school, my family lived on this road. We lived in a house just down from our Mawma and Pawpa.
Dad told me recently that we rented that house for $15 a month. I thought "wow". But when I think about it now and recall how cold it was and how we had no indoor plumbing, I'm not convinced it was such good a deal. I asked him yesterday what Mawma and Pawpa paid to rent the old house they lived in. He said they didn't pay rent. They were allowed to live there in exchange for calling the owner when his cows got out of the pasture. Their old home is now a hunting lodge it seems.
They had one of those rotary phones and would yell down to our house if someone ever called for my mother. It's amazing how that house has changed. When I pass by there now, both places seem to be very nice.
I remember one summer when my cousin came to stay with us. My brother and cousin wanted to go fishing at a very close water hole BUT it was raining. Being little children and listening to the Atlanta weatherman, Guy Sharpe, we knew that he was in charge of the weather.
We stood on the porch and sang "Hey, Guy Sharpe! Turn off the fawcett. We wanna go fishing!"
It worked. The rain passed and thankfully those "boys" were able to be on their way.
Dad said the name of this old church is the Davis Church. I believe it was attended mostly by only a few African-American families in the area. Dad says the younger ones moved away and the older ones died off.
