Geocache Description:

I've been waiting a long time for this! We finally opened our nature trail!
Cache is a medium sized ammo can stuffed with cool things of all types.

This trail has been years in the works.
The cache is located just off our newly opened New Maryland Nature Trail behind the New Maryland Centre on Highway 101. There is plenty of parking and the trail is a nice leisurely walk in the forest.
We had our grand opening on October 14, 2006 complete with a ribbon cutting ceremony and barbecue. I am proud to be a part of the trail construction and New Maryland Trail Committee. Everyone worked very hard but none as hard as Councillor Wilson-Shee. Volunteers came and went but Judy was always out there with every spare moment she had, no matter what the weather. We could not use heavy machinery so ATVs and wheelbarrows were required for hauling in the stone and gravel.
In the beginning we had a chainsaw gang going in front with 5 or 6 others coming up behind clearing the debris. It was hot and tiring and the bugs often chewed through our repellent to eat our skin. I hated it sometimes but it was good exercise and we always kept our sights on the final outcome.
We did our part and now it's time for you to do yours and enjoy the trail.

We hope to construct the suspension bridge in 2007.
