This cache is located near Ascutney State Park - a Vermont gem. Park in the Weathersfield Trail parking lot.
There is disagreement as to the origin of the name "Ascutney." Some trace it to the Algonquin word "Ascutegnik," meaning "meeting of the waters," which seems appropriate. A start off point from the Weathersfield trail to this cache is the Crystal Cascade, an 84 foot plunge of the Ascutney Brook and a famed mecca for geologists.
The cache is a gold-colored ammo box containing some cool stuff. Please take something for your efforts, all the while enjoying the sounds of the brook and the whispering trees. Bring a book of Robert Frost poems and relax.
[Note: The reason for the "dangerous area" attribute is that you will hike over the top of Cascade Falls, with an 84 foot plunge. The trails are kid friendly and so are the falls, but just watch that they don't go too close to the edge at the top - from a Dad talking here. Also, the hike down from Cascade Falls to the cache is a tad steep at the begining and slippery in wet weather - so be careful!]
