New trail just opened to the public. North of Kittanning along the
river road on the east side of the river There are 3 different
parking ares. The longest hike is from the main parking lot N 40
51.042 W 79 30 428. The second parking area is N 40 50.923 W 79
30.358. Go up the trail away from the river. If you have pint size
hunters park at N 40 50.534 W 79 29.915 There are picnic tables and
grills. No rest rooms. No open fires. Prime hunting area, be sure
to wear orange.
Cache is only 500 feet from the 3rd parking area on the down stream
side of the foot bridge near the bench. The cache is a pretzel size
rubbermaid jar. Orignal contents: hockey puck,3 Smokey Bear
stickers, gun lock, carpenter crayon, plastic golf ball, pencil,
Smokey Bear key chain, Smoke activity book, 2 Pumpkins, 2 skelton
heads, stickers, 2 metal cars, Log Book Enjoy the trail, there is
an old swimming hole behind the bench. There is another swimming
hole at the end of the trail call Buttermilk Falls. I replaced the
original Rubbermaid container with an ammobox on March 8 2007
