Geocache Description:

Filling a geocaching void in Rjukan. The cache is hidden at 897 meters above sea level.

For several months each year, not a single sunray shines on the industrial town of Rjukan. But the townspeople can still get themselves some sun by taking this cableway.
Built by German engineers and opened in 1928, the cableway is the oldest of its kind in the Nordic region. For the most part it was funded by Norsk Hydro, the valley's main employer, to keep its workforce healthy.
It is possible to drive to this cache. As the crow flies, it sits 2,4 km from downtown Rjukan. However, to reach it by car involves an astonishing 90 kilometer drive (via Atrå and Kalhovd). So you may find yourself better off withe cableway, which runs most of the time suitable for visiting. www.krossobanen.no lists hours of operation and has lots of info.
From the top station there are sweeping views over the valley, and an interesting perspective on Gaustatoppen. There is also a cafe. This is an important trailhead for hikes further into the mountains.
The cache is an American car key container, holding log, pencil, a glass candy, a moose dropping and 10 øre. With the arrival of each cable-car, muggles tend to come up to the cache site to enjoy the view. But they also tend to leave fast.
It can be sunny at the site. However, the name of the cache is an important clue.
