Geocache Description:

Little Solsbury Hill, the site of an old iron age fort. Stunning views of Bath and the surrounding area.

Little Solsbury Hill is a National Trust site 2 miles North/North East of Bath. It is the site of an old iron age hill fort, from which outstanding views of Kingsdown and the Avon Valley, Landsdown, Bathampton Down, and the east side of the city can be observed.

This is a fantastic location, and is particularly good around sunset, as the sun disappears behind Landsdown.

Access is fairly straight-forward, with a number of easy footpaths leading to the site

For a 20-25 minute hike (less than one mile) to the summit, I can recommend parking opposite the three shires 4x4 Swainswick garage on the Gloucester Road (just off the A46 into Bath). Location N51° 24.171', W002° 20.680'. From here, walk down the hill, go under the A46 and bear left up a gradual slope. Just before the slip road for the A46, there is a narrow road that runs almost parallel to the A46. Head up this road, and after approximately 100 yards, you will reach a stile on the right hand side. Cross the stile and head directly for the line of trees opposite. When you reach them, turn right and follow the line of trees until you reach a stile. Cross the stile, and follow the path up until you enter the National Trust site. Make your way to the top of the plateau and head towards the triangulation point (ST 768678). Location N51° 24.518', W002° 20.109'. The cache is approximately 200 feet (60 metres) NW of this point.

Sit on this shelf, enjoy the view, then find the cache.

UPDATE: 16-Feb-2016: Having visited the cache for maintenance today, I thought I'd review the description. The only change is that the 4x4 Swainswick garage is no more and has been replaced by a couple of cream rendered houses. I've also done a little update to the hint as the cache is in a slightly different (but equally valid) position than it was originally.
