Geocache Description:

There is no need to trespass on private property to retrieve this cache. Baker County has requested that people stay out of these buildings.

Every time I have driven on I-84 & passed this building, I've always wondered what it was. I decided to stop today & check it out. It turns out this is an old abandoned cement plant, and it really shows.

According to Baker County records, the cement plant was in operation up until 1980 when it was abandoned. A new plant was constructed further westward & they just packed up and left. Well actually, they left alot of stuff, so they didn't really pack up and leave. Before the interstate was built people had to travel through the cement plant when traveling this stretch of the highway. A huge cement pipe used to stretch above & across the road along with a conveyor belt. When the conveyor belt was transporting cement traffic often came to a standstill. Cars weren't allowed to pass underneath while the conveyor belt was transporting stuff.

This building has remained vacant since the cement factory closed down. A number of people refer to this as a ghost town, and many others have felt a sense of uneasiness when visiting the area, it gave them the creeps so to speak. When I was placing this cache I felt like someone was watching me. I didn't stay very long.

The abandoned buildings here are really cool. They are Baker County property so people aren't supposed to explore them. It doesn't look like many people have paid attention to the postings though.

You are looking for an ammo container. The cache is not located in or near any of the buildings. Please hide the cache really good & leave the first aid kit inside.

If you traveling westward get off at exit 353 which is the Huntington exit. Follow this road all the way to the cache. When leaving, keep following the road up to the onramp at 342.
If you are traveling eastward get off at exit 342. The only onramp to get on I84 headed east is the onramp at 353. The onramps at 345 & 342 only go westward, crazy huh? You will need to travel about 12 miles from the cache to the onramp by passing through Huntington.

UPDATE: This cache has been replaced. The ammo can with all of it's contents have been stolen. The new cache is now a lock & lock box. Please cover it up extremely well to detour anyone else from stealing the cache. Thanks :)
