Geocache Description:

Located in the Ruth and Paul Henning Conservation Area, this cache is for trading coins and TB's only and please do not take more than one or two items, TRADE UP, TRADE EQUAL, OR DONT TRADE!

This cache is located near the historical Stewart Store site.

The store was once owned by George Stewart and was housed in a large two-story building and served as a center for trading and socializing. Neighbors not only bought goods they needed at the store, such as salt, cottonmaterial and dried meats, but they also could trade their surplus goods, such as eggs or cream. Most of the surplus items that were bought or traded came from the big city of Springfield.

During a record flood in 1906, water flowed over the banks of the creek and destroyed the store. The store was rebuilt and in 1920 concrete wall you see here was built to keep the store from being flooded again. But ironically, it was a fire that destroyed the store for the final time in the late 1920's.
