This cache is really very much part of a trail. As a stand alone
cache it's a simple cache and dash. Parking is available in a large
layby about 10 metres away.
The Saints Way series of caches were designed for people walking
The Saints Way from Padstow on the North Coast to Fowey on the
South Coast.
The Saints Way is a route which follows the probable route of
early Christian travellers making their way from Ireland to the
Continent.
Rather than risk the difficult passage around Lands End they would
disembark their ships on the North Cornish coast and progress to
ports such as Fowey on foot.
The route today between Padstow in the North and Fowey in the south
is 26 miles in length and is well marked.
The caches are named after Cornish Saints and not always near where
they may be commerated at a Church etc.
They will not “work” well as standalone caches and if done by car
will become no more than a series of Cache and dash caches, if
however you’ve walked some 2 or 3 miles along the trail to the
cache - I’m hoping it will be a rather welcome find.
The cache is small tin painted grey with a green plastic lid. Each
cache contains a log sheet, a pencil and a small selection of small
trading items.
St Samson is one of the earliest saints discussed and was said to
have lived in the 6th Century. His parents, Anna and Amon, were
Welsh and of noble descent. At the age of five he was taken into
the care of St Illtud who brought him up as a monk.
Take time to go admire the remains of the stone cross on the other
side of the junction.
