Geocache Description:

Banded Iron Formations (also known as banded ironstone formations, or BIFs) are a distinctive type of rock often found in old sedimentary rocks. The structures consist of repeated thin layers of iron oxides.

This formation is in the Soudan Underground Mine State Park and is well worth the trip to see. No tour is needed to view this rock and you won't even need a State Park sticker to access the site. Follow the road to Stuntz Bay but please do not park on this rock. This formation looks like someone started mixing it with a spoon. You can find more information about the State Park here  and about BIF's here.  Cache is an ammo can with the usual stuff and a little something for the FTF.
