Geocache Description:

Once part of the Ballona Wetlands, the Ballona Lagoon was separated from the wetlands when the Marina was dredged in the 1950s.

This natural saltwater estuary serves as protected habitat for hundreds of species of marine life, birds, native plants and animals. The lagoon is fed by the ocean and has two high and two low tides every day. It's one of the last tidal wetlands in Southern California, and an important way station on the Pacific Flyway, the route flown by birds migrating between Alaska and Latin America.

If you have some time, take a stroll along the lagoon. You might even end up at the Venice Canals!

Cache is a disguised micro. Log only, bring your own pen. No stickers please!

Metered parking is available.
