How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

This is a pleasant, less-than-one-hour ramble through the charming, historical area of the Village of Manotick, known affectionately by residents as “The Tick.” You may wish to combine this search with Long Island Mill (GCRRON). If you’re a TAG (Type A Geocacher), it can also be done by car, but we think the walk will be better for your soul.

PLEASE NOTE: Except after a prolonged thaw, the cache itself is not accessible in winter.

There is usually ample parking at the posted coordinates.

At each redirect, your calculations will result in a six-digit number. The first three digits will be the new North decimals, and the last three digits will be the new West decimals of the way-point coordinates shown below.

Way-Point 1: Note the time, then count only the uppermost stones. Let the number of stones be ab.
New decimals: (bbbbba / a) + 58055 = _ _ _ _ _ _
Way-Point 2 coordinates: N45 13._ _ _ W75 40._ _ _

Way-Point 2: “Upon this rock…” Let the four-digit cluster be cdef.
New decimals: defcde – 28178 = _ _ _ _ _ _
Way-Point 3 coordinates: N45 13._ _ _ W75 40._ _ _

Way-Point 3: Let the four-digit number be jklm.
New decimals: mjklmj + 2853 = _ _ _ _ _ _
Way-Point 4 coordinates: N45 13._ _ _ W75 41._ _ _

Way-Point 4: Hardly holy water. Let the four-digit number be stuv.
New decimals: (tuvstv / v) + 35108 = _ _ _ _ _ _
Cache coordinates: N45 13._ _ _ W75 41._ _ _

The cache is near a frequently visited place, so stealth will be required at certain times of the day. We’ve tried to position it so as to be out of sight of resident muggles.

As of May 2008, the cache container is a cylindrical tin container covered in camo tape. It has been slightly repositioned, but is still within meters of the final coordinates. Please close the container securely, and replace it exactly as you found it.

In its new location, this cache has proven to be NOT winter-friendly.
