A hike along an unmapped trail. The cache is just outside the
park boundaries.
This cache is designed to guide you to a lake in the Olympic
National Park. You will start on a new trail only a couple of
years old. From there you will travel by an abandoned logging
road (sort of). Then you head off road along the ridge top
and the Park boundary to the cache site. Terrain is steep and
changes with every year, but is always steep and tricky.
Since caches are not allowed in a National Park this cache will
guide you to the sign just outside the Park, where the trail turns
and leads into the park to the Lake.
I almost missed the sign looking at an unusual snag, plus the fact
that the tree the sign was on has broken off and is on the ground.
There is another cache on the way here placed by Criminal. We
figured two caches might be enough to lure people this
way.
Enjoy some fishing while you have hiked this far. The lake is only
a 10 minute hike downhill.
You do not need a fishing license to fish in the
Park! Please check the statewide rules for catch limits
though.
Did I forget to mention Elk Lake is only a 10 minute walk
downhill? Straight down!
