At Chatfield Hollow State Park in Killingworth, CT. Ample parking is available off Rt. 80. A very popular four season park; bring the kids and dogs. Hike the trails in search of Indian caves, explore the jagged rocky ledges and recesses, relax by the cooling waters, or picnic in the soft pine woods. Trail maps are available for downloading at the User's Web Page link. There is a fee to drive into the park during the summer season.
Chatfield Hollow has plenty of caches in the main part of the park, so I placed this two-stage multi-cache to bring people out to a less-frequented, but still interesting, area. Your search will actually take you into a part of Cockaponset State Forest, the second largest state forest in CT. The hike, which is a little over 3 miles round trip, will reward you with babbling brooks, a ravine, a waterfowl restoration area, and one of the highest points in the park, at over 450 feet above sea level. I strongly encourage using the available trail map at (visit link) to plan and execute your search. Very little off-trail hiking is required, and you may be able to do a nice loop hike on the upper portion without retracing your steps. When you reach the first stage, use the guide below to decode the coordinates for the final stage, which is a small plastic container. **Note, there is no physical container at the first stage. Please replace everything as you found it. First to find gets an official Geocaching DVD. Enjoy!
