I wanted to make a memorable cache for Halloween, and this is what
my twisted mind devised.
The coords will lead you to the beginning of a hellishly clever
7-point adventure through the haunted woods in and around hazleton,
and to some little known parts of town that have a horrific and
disturbing past. The path you will travel will unravel the evil
truth seething in this city. The final cache is located on sacred
ground, and can be quite dangerous if you aren't careful.
Point 1 - The Gallows - As immigrants from Europe came to
Hazleton for coal mining jobs in the early 1800's, they cleared
land to expand town, forcing the native people away. Legend says
that the natives who refused to leave were captured and brought to
this building. This bank building was the city's original
courthouse and jail, where many native people were hung until
dead...
Point 2 - Suicide Cliff.
Point 3 - Haunted house in the vicinity. - If you attempt this
cache at night, it might not be the folks living near here making
the noises! This is a residential area so keep quiet at night!
Point 4 - Coords to point 5
Point 5 - Coords to point 6
Point 6 - Hell
Final Point 7 - The Abyss - Map of Completion
In 1997, this place became famous. News reporters crowded here
from all around, and helicopters flew overhead. This was supposedly
the site of a satanic cult ritual site. I have personally found
dead animals and a huge 15 foot high white birch inverted cross
with strange inscriptions carved into it. I am a woodworker and I
could tell this thing was intricate and well-made. One year I was
hunting in the area and heard a constant monotone chanting coming
from stage 7 area. I was like ..okay.. this is weird. I got closer
and it continued. When I got close enough to see where the voices
were coming from, it got instantly quiet. Not like they got quiet
because they heard me, but just vanished like they were never
there.. There was nothing but silence, rocks and trees. Good
Luck!
Stage 7 can be dangerous so this is why I gave the terrain 4
stars. Some crazy cachers, like DMBFORME, sneaker123, Team Lucky
and FrenchFryandFrosty have done it at night..but I don't recommend
it unless you come prepared. The stages are spread out across
town for a reason. You'll see why when you find the maps of
progress.
Transportation is recommended between points, although points 2
and 4 are not completely accessible to motor vehicles and must be
walked. With luck, good weather and good geosenses, it is possible
to complete this cache in 2-3 hours.
Climbing gear should not be needed, but if you like rappelling
or rock climbing, bring your gear!
According to OReviewer, I must put a description of my
maintenence plan on here, because I live in Saugerties, NY. I visit
on a regular basis to maintain my caches. However, if something
goes wrong with any of my Pennsylvania caches and needs to be fixed
the next day, I have (at least) three friends who can perform
maintenence on these caches for me.
Congrats to DMBFORME for FTF on 27 October
06!
