The first part of the hike takes you on a 900 foot elevation
gain along the AT from the parking lot to the top of the west face
of Wawayanda Mountain. On the way, you can take in the incredible
view from Pinwheel Vista on the west face of Wawayanda Mountain. It
is a short detour along the Blue Trail to the left. On a clear day,
you can see the Shawangunks and the Catskills to the north and
Vernon Valley, Pochuck Mountain and Kittatiny Ridge (including the
High Point monument) to the west and south. This is a great place
to watch the raptor migration during those times of the year. Be
sure to visit the nearby
“Pinwheel Vista” cache after leaving here.
As you continue along the AT, the continuation of the Blue Trail
will appear on your right. Take this trail for about .75 mile right
to the cache. There is also a rock outcrop nearby with nice
views.
If your feeling really adventurous, continue east along the AT
for another mile and a quarter to Klizich’s
“The 'Cash' Hunter Diaries: Reading Comprehension” cache.
