Geocache Description:

This cache recognizes the sacrifice of a Local Hero and an eight year veteran of the Goshen Police Department. Take some time to experience the quiet beauty of this small cemetery tucked away in rural West Goshen. While here be sure to read the poem etched into the officers memorial. It is quite moving. As with most cemeteries, visitors are only allowed from dawn to dusk.

This is a four stage multi-cache. The first stage is a memorial to local Heroes. The second stage leads you to a quiet cemetery where our fallen hero rests. The third stage directs you to the memorial while the fourth is the cache container. You will need to visit them in listed order as each provides clues to the coordinates for the next stage.

Be wary of muggles in the cemetery as it is a popular dog walking area. A golf-course also borders the property to the west. Cemetery staff are aware of this cache but will not assist you in finding it. The walk is not difficult.

Note that this has been converted to a micro-cache. It is easier to find and there should be no confusion with private property. As with each of my cemetery placements this cache is not placed near a headstone or memorial and is not in a bush.

Stage 1: Starting Coordinates

N 41.35.027 W 085.49.992

On arrival at stage 1 you will find the memorial to local Police Officers who have given their lives in the line of duty. The address number of the facility where the memorial is located provides the west coordinates for stage 2 of the cache.

Stage 2: The Cemetery

N 41.34.758 W 085.51.xxx

Following a short drive from stage 1 you should be looking at a sign which briefly documents the history of the cemetery. There are three dates on this sign. To find the west coordinates for stage 3 subtract the first date from the third.

Stage 3: The Memorial

N 41.34.705 W 085.51.xxx

You should now be standing at the final resting place of our Fallen Hero. Please take a moment to offer a prayer or spoken word of thanks. Kindly remember to respect the memorial and do not touch or remove anything from it. To find the coordinates for stage 4 and the cache simply add our heroes age in years to the number of years he served our community. Subtract this number from his badge number to get your new West Coordinates.

Stage 4: The Cache

N 41.34.571 W 085.51.xxx

Please park at the Maintenance building before proceeding to stage 4. Do not drive up the hill as there is no turnaround and you could easily damage headstones trying to back out.

You are looking for a dark green matchstick container which holds the logbook and a double-sharpened pencil.

If you know of another local "Fallen Hero" who deserves recognition just send me an email. I will do my best to put together a cache in their honor.
