In 1830, "Allegheny Bridge" was the name of the town we now call Eldred and the bridge crossing the Allegheny River was called The Lattice Bridge. The town was renamed in 1880 in honor of Judge Nathaniel Eldred.
In 1928 the bridge was replaced with one of unique design that included the intersection of Duffytown Rd. on it's span. An article in The McKean County Democrat (4-4-1968) reported it's design to be one of only two in the world. The bridge became known as the "Kendall Bridge" because of the Kendall gas station on the bridge's east end at the intersection of Rt. 346 and Rt. 446.
Due to deteriorating concrete and flood damage, the bridge was replaced in 1974 at a reported cost of $775,000. and 1 year's labor. Fortunately, the builders chose to retain the unique design making bridge 83-94 truly "one of a kind".
