Geocache Description:

This is the third of a series of caches located around the historic village of Mickleton (www.mickleton.com)and should take less than 30 mins to complete including the walk, why not try the other caches in the series, Meander(The Hooter) and Meander(Jacks Cache)

To the tourist, Mickleton is a village on the B4632 southwards from
Stratford-upon-Avon towards Broadway and on to Cheltenham.
To the gardener, it is at the bottom of the hill from Hidcote and Kiftsgate gardens.
To the politician, Mickleton is (since the 1930s) the northernmost village in
Gloucestershire, close to the borders of Warwickshire and Worcestershire: it is
about 35 miles from Birmingham, 70 from Bristol, 100 from London or Cardiff.
To the geographer, Mickleton is at the far northern end of the steep scarp which marks the western edge of the Cotswold Hills, from here to Bath: the village is at the foot of the scarp, where the hills fall away into the Vale of Evesham. To the north is Meon Hill (636ft), scene of the notorious ‘witchcraft’ murder of 1945. To the historian, Mickleton was the scene of Brunel’s infamous ‘Battle of Mickleton Tunnel’ (1852), considered the last pitched battle to be fought between private armies in England.

Meon Hill - Weathertop

Along the top of the Cotswold escarpment there are many Iron Age hill forts. The one which gives a feeling of being much like Tolkien's Weathertop (visit link) is the flat-topped Meon Hill. This hill is a landmark visible for miles around in all directions. And the hill itself commands a strategic view of the roads around.
Meon Hill has many associations with the supernatural and witchcraft. The hill is said to have been created by The Devil, in anger, at the construction of Evesham Abbey some miles away. There are legends that phantom hounds of the Celtic King Arawyn hunt the hill at night. In 1945 Meon Hill was the site of a well-publicised ritual witchcraft murder, the victim impaled on a pitchfork, his body marked with pagan symbols. Investigations were led by Scotland Yard's "Fabian of The Yard". (visit link)
You can park down the lane but only as far as the green container on the left before the fields. Why not carry on walking after you find the cache and up the Hill looking for the Witchcraft markings on the trees and if you are feeling really brave do this in the DARK!!!!!!
