Boynton Park Hike Saver Traditional Cache
Izzy's Pets: Alas, we went today to the cache site location and found to our sorrow that not only was the cache missing but also the tree it was in and many surrounding trees are gone. We regretfully will archive this cache. Perhaps in the future, we'll place another nearby, but will wait for now in view of all the clearing that has been done.

A regular cache in Boynton Park, Worcester.
You may have heard of "gas saver" caches; well, this is a "hike saver" cache! Choose to do this cache on its own, or why not search for it and log this find while enjoying the "Cascade/Boynton Park Multi" (GCVW4N).
Boynton Park comprises about 75 acres of city owned park land and is adjacent to the Cascades West Property which remains the city’s “wildest tract of land through active forest stewardship which aims to create biological diversity, sustainably produce wood products, and to invite passive recreational use of this unique property.” This property lies right at Worcester’s urban edge. Rather than making a transition into suburbia as is generally the case, this section of Worcester is unique in that it abruptly changes into an extensive area of protected woodland.
To reach the cache, you will travel through a unique area where centuries ago written accounts reported “deer horns” discovered on the ground. “Nuts were very plentiful and also grey squirrels, hedgehogs, wild turkeys (these are still seen today) and wild cats (either bobcats or mountain lions) and now and then wolves and bears.” The land today is not as wild as it was in 1746 when Joseph Howard moved to Howard Street, but it is among the wildest in the Worcester area.
To access the cache directly, park at the picnic area for Boynton Park 42 17.252 071 52.770
You will proceed North on Howard Street (see above), an unkempt paved road where motor vehicles are not allowed. You will then join the upper portion of the Meadow Ridge Trail of the Cascades West Property visible behind two wooden posts on the right. This trail will take you through an area where silviculture has taken place. Silviculture is the art and science of controlling the establishment, growth, composition, health, and quality of forests to meet diverse needs and values of landowners and society on a sustainable basis.
The cache is a regular ammo box located not more than 100 ft. from the trail.
(Alternatively, park at 42 16.989 071 51.768 and start the "Cascade/Boynton Park Multi" (GCVW4N) from the beginning. Along the way your search will take you to Howard Street and the "Hike Saver" cache will be located somewhere between Waypoints 4 and 5 of the multicache.)
